Lecture focuses on Owen family role in establishment of Smithsonian

Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Sears will discuss the influence of Robert Dale Owen and his brother David Dale Owen on the creation of the Smithsonian as an institution, and their role in the design of its first home, the Castle. Robert was a founding Smithsonian regent. In March 2009, Sears was invited by the Smithsonian Institution to give his presentation and participate in a panel discussion. Historic New Harmony staff, USI trustees, and Owen family members traveled to Washington D. C. for the program. The Atheneum/Visitors Center is located at 401 N.
