Inauguration activities celebrate USI's third president

Curris, retired president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, will present the Inauguration Symposium "The Public's Universities: Continuity and Change" at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, in Carter Hall in the University Center. Curris has served as president of Murray State University, University of Northern Iowa, and Clemson University. He is an advocate for public higher education and a proponent of the qualitative strengthening of higher education institutions in order to meet public needs in the 21st century. The inauguration will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 15, in the Physical Activities Center. As part of the ceremony, delegates from colleges and universities throughout the country will join members of the USI faculty in the academic procession. Following the investiture, President Bennett will give her inaugural address, "Engaging the Future: Higher Education and the Common Good." A public reception will be held in Carter Hall in the University Center immediately following the ceremony. Here's the complete schedule of inauguration week events: - Parents and Family Weekend, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 10. President Bennett will welcome USI students and parents during a picnic lunch on the quad hosted by the USI Parents and Families Association. - Alumni Reception, 2 -4 p.m. Sunday, October 11. President Bennett will greet alumni during a reception in the McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries hosted by the USI Alumni Association. Alumni art will be on display. - New Harmony Reception, 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 13. President Bennett will meet with donors and patrons at the Atheneum/Visitor's Center in New Harmony. Hosted by Friends of Historic New Harmony. - Inauguration Symposium presented by Dr. Constantine W. Curris, 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, Carter Hall, University Center. - Inauguration, 3 p.m. Thursday, October 15, Physical Activities Center. A reception in Carter Hall will follow the ceremony. - President's Associates Dinner, 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 16, Carter Hall. President Bennett will greet major donors. University friends are underwriting inaugural expenses through private gifts to the University of Southern Indiana Foundation.
