University of Southern Indiana men′s tennis junior Joseph Boesing and sophomore Diego Gimenez battled back from a one-game deficit to defeat Northwood University′s top-seeded duo of Peter Kazianschuetz and Frederic Schoelzel 9-8 (7-3) and claim the program′s second-ever Wilson/ITA Midwest Region doubles title on September 27.

The Screaming Eagles′ duo, which trailed 6-5, broke Northwood′s serve late in the match before claiming the 7-3 super-set tie-breaker. "The guys fought through a lot of adversity this weekend," Head Coach Chris Crawford said. "It is a huge win for the program and a great start to the season."

Boesing and Gimenez, who have advanced to play in the ITA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama, October 15-18, are the third and fourth players in school history to win an ITA Regional title. Former USI standouts Joe Epkey and Jarrod Epkey paired for a regional title in 2004, while Joe Epkey won the regional championship as an individual in 2004.

The win caps off a strong weekend for the Eagles who had three players advance to the second round of the individual tournament and two teams advance to the third round of the doubles tournament. Freshman Juan Quiroz was USI′s top singles player over the weekend as he progressed to the quarterfinals before falling to Wayne State University′s Bertrand Moulin in straight sets.

"I thought our team played well this weekend," Crawford said. "The team wanted to make a statement, especially to the teams in our conference, and I think we were able to do that."
