Charles Wiley, an experienced journalist and war correspondent, will give a lecture on the power of the media, news bias, and the need for objective reporting at on Tuesday, October 13, at the University of Southern Indiana. Wiley will present "The Power of Media and Media Bias" at 4:30 p.m. in Room 1004 in the Liberal Arts Center (LA 1004).

Wiley has reported from over 100 countries. He has covered 11 wars, including the war of the mujahedeen in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union and the war in Kosovo. Wiley's in-depth search for facts led to his arrest eight times by secret police, including the KGB, and imprisonment in a Cuban dungeon.

A New York University graduate, his freelance articles and photographs have appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek and Time. He has reported for NBC, UPI, the London Express, and numerous other U.S. and foreign news media.

While reporting from 100 countries, his search for facts led to his arrest eight times by secret police, including the KGB, and imprisonment in a Cuban dungeon while he was a correspondent for New York City radio station WOR.

The lecture is sponsored by the USI Political Science Society, the Pre-Law Club, and the Political Science Department.
