Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 The MAPP exam evaluates changes in skills in the humanities, science and math, and social sciences. In the past, this exam was given to incoming full-time, non-transfer freshman students to see what they knew coming into USI, and then given to the same students as juniors to find out what they learned since their freshman years. Due to changes in testing policy, the University is transitioning into testing students as freshman and seniors. This means that for Assessment Day 2009, OPRA will administer the MAPP exam to freshman only. Beginning next year, Assessment Day 2010, seniors as well as freshmen will be required to take the MAPP exam. Failure to participate in MAPP testing will result in the loss of priority registration privileges for spring 2010, summer 2010, and fall 2010 classes. Freshmen who do not take the MAPP test on Assessment Day will not be able to register for classes until open registration for that semester. The MFT - completely separate from the MAPP - is a standard test used to measure student knowledge regarding specific majors compared to other students from universities across the country. Students majoring in specific fields of study who are close to graduation are to take the MFT on Assessment Day. Seniors in the following majors are required to take an MFT exam on Assessment Day 2009: Biology Business Undergraduate (enrolled in MNGT 452) Business Graduate (enrolled in MNGT 681) Chemistry Economics English Geology History Mathematics Philosophy Political Science Psychology Failure to participate in MFT testing will result in various penalties to be determined by the department chair. Students who want to verify their testing status can visit www.usi.edu/opra/assessment_testing.asp and enter their nine-digit student IDs. Students whose names appear are required to take one of the exams (MAPP or MFT). All details have been included in emails sent to students. Letters also were mailed to students' local addresses. More information about Assessment Day is available on the OPRA web site at www.usi.edu/opra/assessment.asp. |
