USI students to learn about area homelessness in "Boxville"

University of Southern Indiana students will participate in Boxville, a homelessness awareness program, from 9 p.m. Monday, November 9, until 2 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, behind the Residence Life Community Center on Mahrenholz Road in the McDonald West Apartments on the USI campus.

During the program, Dr. Marie Opatrny, USI assistant professor of social work, and Kat Isbell, a member of the Community Development Team at Aurora, Inc., will discuss homelessness in Evansville and the effort to end it. After the guest speakers give their presentations, teams of students will compete in a variety of categories to build "box homes." Teams also can earn points toward awards by donating non-perishable food items in the Boxville collection drive.
