In addition to the School Award, 10 students from SIJS were awarded prizes for their writings and poems in the 30th Literature Contest. "All our students and teachers have been working on this contest since April," said Keietsu Nishimura, principal of SIJS. "We are proud of this accomplishment. It's not easy to win this prize, especially four times in a row." SIJS opened in 1997 at the request of local Japanese companies. The school prepares students for a smooth transition into Japanese school life when they return home. For more information about SIJS, go to www.usi.edu/extserv/outreach/japaneseschool.asp. |
