Provost candidate Marilyn Levine on campus November 9 and 10

Levine is a historian of Asia (China and Southeast Asia), with a Master of Arts degree in history (Southeast Asia) from the University of Hawaii and a Ph.D. in history (modern China) from the University of Chicago. Her fields of specialization are 20th century Chinese political party development in Europe and transcultural influences, Vietnamese political and cultural history, and development of shared scholarly online databases, among others. Over her academic career, Levine has published more than 60 books and articles in three different languages, delivered more than 140 presentations and workshops, received over four dozen grants and fellowships, served on more than 12 councils and boards, and received numerous awards and honors, including three awards for teaching excellence. She has organized two international conferences. Because of her international reputation, she has conducted projects and made presentations in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, France, Great Britain, Germany, and Italy. She has served in college administration for the last nine years. Before her appointment at Eastern Oregon University, she was chair of the Division of Social Sciences at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho. As dean, she is the executive officer of the College of Arts and Sciences over three divisions: sciences, mathematics, and technology social sciences and modern languages and arts and letters. The divisions have 19 departments.
