Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 The Republican was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1994. It was his first run for public office. He served in the House from 1995 to 2007 and was a member of the House Armed Services Committee throughout those years. He was one of only six Republican House members to vote against a resolution authorizing then-President George W. Bush to invade Iraq in 2002. According to Hostettler's website, his book "reveals why political leaders and their subordinates sought to remove Saddam Hussein from power. Nothing for the Nation reminds us that when it comes to relations between rival nations - and rival national leaders - America's founders were wise to give us a republic and not a monarchy. The sages who secured for us the blessings of liberty would not have been surprised by the true motivation of those who sold America on the idea of ousting the Butcher of Baghdad." Hostettler's USI visit is sponsored by the Social Work Department and Chapter 104 of Veterans For Peace. For more information, call Gary May, associate professor of social work, at 812/465-1694. |
