"It is my sanctuary, my confessional booth, my therapy chaise lounge, and my concert hall. The grey vinyl of the dashboard harbors my thoughts it takes them and takes them and never complains." She describes, talking, crying, and singing to her dashboard. "Rarely a day goes by when I do not speak to my vehicle. The pure feeling of releasing my tensions, upsets, and joys to something that will not tell me I'm wrong keeps me going." Students in USI's 10 Living Learning Communities read the book This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women for the Bonding through Books program for freshmen and were asked to write a 350 to 500 word essay telling a story about what they believe. Finalists from each LLC read their essays in front of a panel of judges on November 3. Thomas represented the Liberal Arts LLC, King represented Education, and Buddemeyer, Nursing and Health Professions. Thomas won second place in the contest, and King took third.
