The University of Southern Indiana continues non-conference play this weekend when it hosts the third annual Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament Friday and Saturday at the Physical Activities Center. The tournament features the GLVC's USI and Bellarmine University against the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Michigan Tech University and the Northern Sun Conference's University of Minnesota Duluth.

Game times for Friday and Saturday are 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each day. USI will play the late game on both days of the tournament. Fans also can listen to the games on ESPN 106.7FM and WPSR 90.7FM.

The Screaming Eagles (2-0) have flown out of the box to start the 2009-10 campaign, posting wins over Harris-Stowe State University and Tiffin University. Senior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) has led the way for the Eagles with 21.5 points in the first two games.
Smith was followed in the scoring column by senior forward Jeron Lewis (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), who is averaging a double-double with 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest. Junior forward Nick Duncheon (Montgomery, Indiana) rounds out the double-figure scorers by averaging 15.0 points.

USI starts the tournament with the Huskies of Michigan Tech (1-2). The Huskies started the year with a 70-68 loss at Minnesota Duluth before producing a split in the St. Cloud Invitational with a 62-56 win over Minnesota State University Morehead and a 75-62 loss to host St. Cloud State University.

The Eagles lead the all-time series with Michigan Tech, 3-0, including a 58-57 win at home in 2007-08.
On Saturday, USI concludes the tournament against the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth (2-1), who play the University of Wisconsin-Superior Tuesday evening. Minnesota Duluth followed its season-opening win over Michigan Tech with a split at home, losing 77-71 to the University of Nebraska-Kearney and winning a 91-53 decision over the GLVC's Maryville University.

USI won the only meeting with Minnesota Duluth, defeating the Bulldogs, 100-56, at the PAC in 1997-98.

The Knights of Bellarmine (2-1), who was ranked seventh in the first NABC/Division II Top 25 Poll, will be looking to bounce back from an 84-74, double overtime loss to Wayne State University last week. Bellarmine started the year with a 92-75 win over Salem International University and a 76-68 victory over Hillsdale College.

The Knights come to the PAC next Thursday to open the GLVC schedule.
