Provost named at USI

As part of the announcement, President Bennett said, "Dr. Rochon is enthusiastic, energetic, and brings a tremendous level of excitement to the position of provost. He is known nationally and internationally for his work in the area of education and education policy issues. His record of leadership in higher education and his accomplishments in outreach and engagement make him a perfect fit for the University of Southern Indiana." Rochon will provide administrative leadership and oversight for all academic and operational components of the University, and serve as the chief executive officer in the absence of the president. His office will guide planning and implementation of a learning environment that promotes a comprehensive, critical skills-focused student experience and prepares USI students to be active and involved citizens in their communities. He brings 14 years of experience to the position, including service as associate vice president for Teacher Education and dean of the School of Education at Buffalo State College, and director and co-founder of the Research Center for Cultural Diversity and Community Renewal at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He also held the position of director of Master of Education-Professional Development Program and interim director of the School of Education and associate dean of the College of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Teacher Education during his tenure at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Several roles he held simultaneously. In addition to his current positions, Rochon is currently on the Executive Board of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), and is the chair-elect for 2010. He earned his undergraduate degree at Tuskegee University. His graduate degrees are from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His doctoral work was in educational policy studies, with an emphasis on educational history and policy analysis. His teaching career has included work at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Texas A & M University, Washington State University, and University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He has garnered distinction for teaching, dedication to students, and community work. He is the recipient of the Ronald McNair Scholarship, a 2009 mentor award. He was the 2009 Black History Month "Change Maker" award recipient and received the distinguished alumni award from the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007. |
