Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Allison Grabert, science coordinator for the Southwest Indiana Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (SwiSTEM) Resource Center located at USI, said, "By expanding the fair to include these grades, we can pool younger regional talent and provide a portal for teachers to incorporate inquiry-based learning into their elementary classrooms, which is an issue that desperately needs to be addressed on a national, state, and local level. We believe that children who explore the scientific world around them at an early age will be more apt to continue down a STEM pathway in their educational ventures." The Pott Foundation Tri-State Science and Engineering Fair will be held March 11-12 in the Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Center at USI. The deadline to register for the fair is Thursday, February 4, for the senior division (grades 9-12) and Thursday, February 18, for the junior division (grades 4-8). To register or for more information, go to www.usi.edu/science/fair/. The fair has been held at the University of Southern Indiana since 2007. |
