Officials from the University of Southern Indiana and Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) will announce a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) during the NSWC Crane Job Fair at USI on Saturday, February 6. The job fair begins at 9 a.m. and a news conference on the PIA will start at 10 a.m. Both events will be held in Carter Hall in the University Center.

Dr. Linda L. M. Bennett, president of USI, and Duane Embree, technical director at NSWC Crane, will be available to answer questions.

Dr. Scott Gordon, dean of the Pott College of Science and Engineering, will lead a tour of one of USI's traveling laboratory STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) trucks as part of the news conference. The STEM trucks visits schools to deliver scientific equipment for teachers who request it. The PIA will expand USI's STEM reach.

Since 2007, USI and NSWC Crane have operated under a Memorandum of Understanding that has allowed USI faculty access to NSWC Crane's scientists, research equipment, and facilities. The agreement also has provided USI students with internship and job opportunities.

The collaboration has resulted in award-winning intellectual property mining events and trainings led by the University's Center for Applied Research, the establishment of STEM camps in which regional high school physics teachers work with USI faculty and NSWC Crane engineers and scientists, and Saturday's job fair, which will bring career opportunities at NSWC Crane and its contractors to the region's college graduates and students interested in internships.

NSWC Crane Job Fair

The NSWC Crane Job Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, in Carter Hall in the University Center at USI. The event is free and open to students and the community. Recruiters from various NSWC Crane units will meet with job candidates. Up to a dozen additional Crane supplier companies also will be recruiting at the fair. Co-ops and summer internships are available, as well as full-time positions for graduates and soon-to-be graduates. Crane is seeking engineering and science students and professionals.

NSWC Crane will hire in excess of 400 employees during 2010 and is interested in journeyman level scientists, engineers, and contract specialists. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree and work experience and be a United States citizen. Interested candidates should bring resumes, official transcripts and if claiming veterans' preference, a copy of Form DD-214 to the job fair on Saturday.

In addition to NSWC Crane, several military support contractors will also be seeking candidates at the job fair. These companies will be looking for entry level as well as journeyman and are also interested in technicians, logisticians, and administrative candidates.

The Crane Learning and Employment Center (CLEC) for Veterans with Disabilities also will attend the event and will be available to answer questions and provide information on the program. For more information about the job fair, call the NSWC Crane Public Affairs Office at 812/854-3239.

Located 90 miles northeast of Evansville, Crane is the third largest U.S. Navy facility and third largest employer in Southwest Indiana with over 3,500 employees.
