Brandi Schwartz Marketing Coordinator Outreach & Engagement 812/464-1854 Good farmers know never to waste anything, including old farm buildings. However, sometimes these vintage structures need to be adapted to function efficiently with modern agricultural equipment. Across Indiana, barns of all ages and types have been successfully rehabilitated for modern farming and other uses. On March 5, Barn Again! workshop participants will learn practical solutions for maintaining, rehabilitating, and adapting old barns for the modern world. The history and structural technology of barns will be covered as well as creative ways in how they can be reused. Entrepreneurs will share experiences in creating businesses in which their rehabilitated barns were central. Experts will discuss financial incentives for barn rehabilitation and rehab know-how, as well as sources for labor and materials. In addition, Preserve Dubois County will host Barns to Homes. Guests will tour four log structures that have been adapted for residential use. A $20 registration fee is required for this event and includes van transportation to the sites and a light reception. On March 6, participants will tour historic barns in four Indiana counties. Barn tours will begin in Dubois County and travel through Orange and Washington counties to Jackson County, where the National Maple Syrup Festival will be underway in Medora. Registration is $60 for both days $45 for March 5 only and $20 for March 6 only. Costs include lunch, an information packet, barn tours, membership to the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, and special pricing for entrance to the National Maple Syrup Festival. The workshop is based on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Barn Again! program.
