Chicago ceramist is judge for 40th Juried Student Art Exhibition

Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 The artworks in this year′s highly competitive exhibit will be selected by Chicago-based ceramicist Paul Andrew Wandless. Wandless, an internationally-known artist and author, is assistant professor of art at Harold Washington College in Chicago and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Delaware. He will have a solo exhibition at the Plinth Gallery in Denver later this year and has participated in "The Ceramic Print" exhibition at the Lill Street Gallery in Chicago and "Beyond Embargo: Cuban and American Ceramics" at the Fuller Crafts Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts. He also contributed to the international Tiles of Mexico Project at Placas de Artistas in Monterrey, Mexico. Wandless is the author of Image Transfer on Clay and co-author with James Watkins of Alterative Kilns and Firing Techniques: Raku, Sagger, Pit and Barrel, both published by Lark Books. He has written numerous articles for such magazines as the Journal of Southern Graphics and Pottery Making Illustrated. In addition to judging the exhibit, he will present "Clay and the Print," an illustrated lecture, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in Kleymeyer Hall in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center. He will discuss and show images of his artwork and the distinctive techniques he has developed. The public is invited to attend.
