The New Harmony Spring "Art and Antiques" Stroll will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in downtown New Harmony. Several galleries, including the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, the Women′s Institute and Gallery, and Stephen Pace Gallery, and The White House Restaurant will feature receptions for the artists. The Antiques Showrooms in the Mews, Cookie Jar Antiques, Firehouse Antiques, Antique Emporium, Chi′c & Tiques, Harmony Pottery, the Maximilian-Bodemer Exhibit and The Scholle House will remain open for the evening. The art and antiques stroll is free and open to the public. During the reception the artists will be available for questions.

The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art presents "The New Birds of New Harmony" an exhibition by Brian Collier examining bird migrations and extinctions paying particular attention to the introduction of the starling to North America and the current bird populations in the Midwest and New Harmony. The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is located at 506 Main Street in New Harmony, Indiana and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon until 4 p.m. Sundays. For more information call 812/682-3156 or visit www.nhgallery.com.

Also at the New Harmony Gallery on April 10, there will be an artist reception for textile artist Laura Foster Nicholson in the consignment shop from 4 to 7 p.m. New pieces from Nicholson′s Rural Tapestries series will be featured and all purchases of Nicholson′s artwork and gift items will be a special 15 percent off the retail price during reception hours only. Nicholson items in the gallery include her hand woven textiles, ribbons, sachets, and garland.

Nicholson′s designs have been licensed to Crate and Barrel, Land of Nod, Kids Grow, Renaissance Ribbons, and Larson Inc. Her textile wall hangings are in several fine art collections throughout the world, including The Art Institute of Chicago, The Archive of the Venice Biennale, and the private collection of J.B. Owen. Her hand-woven textiles are what she calls her "serious art" and reflect the rural landscape in southern Indiana. Barns, vast fields, and a metallic, muted color palette capture her impressions of the land surrounding her studio and home in New Harmony.

The Women′s Institute and Gallery will feature the work of Evansville native Valda Alsop, in the exhibition "Natural Value," a collection of realist and impressionist paintings. The Women′s Institute and Gallery is located at 916 East Granary Street and features changing exhibitions, women resources, gifts, and seminars in an 1870 New Harmony home. Open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Call 812/682-3799 for more information.

A special reception will be held at the Scholle House at the corner of Tavern and Brewery streets for "The Art of Science." The collaborative work of three pioneering scientists who joined the Owen/Maclure community in 1826 will be the subject of Historic New Harmony′s 2010 exhibition, April 10 through December 30. "The Art of Science" will feature original art, insect specimens, 19th-century scientific equipment and rare books borrowed from the collections of Historic New Harmony, the Working Men's Institute, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, Museum d'Historire Naturelle du Havre, and other institutions.

The Maximilian-Bodmer exhibit, located at 520 Main Street, is a unique collection of original aquatints and etchings documenting an important expedition to the western United States. This expedition has connections to the New Harmony scientific community, due to Prince Maximilian′s long stay in New Harmony.
