Men will "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" tonight

Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Eric Williams, Vanderburgh County sheriff, Stan Levco, Vanderburgh County prosecutor, Terry Winkler, assistant Boonville police chief, Barry Schonberger, USI dean of students, and other men are scheduled to walk in the high heeled shoes and address participants during a post-march rally. Registration for the walk will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Liberal Arts Center. Rus Ervin Funk, a gender violence expert, will speak briefly about the men's movement for a non-violent community. The walk will begin just after Funk speaks, at about 6:30 p.m. After the walk, Williams, Levco, and Schonberger, along with students and community members, will participate in a men's pledge to end violence. Men, women, and children are invited to participate. The walk is sponsored by a number of USI campus organizations, including the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, Order of Omega, SGA SOS Grants, and Rugby Club. USI also has an active men's awareness group called Male Allies Against Rape and Violence (MAARV). A woman is raped every 90 seconds in America. Albion Fellows Bacon Center provided sexual assault services to 588 primary and secondary victims in 2009. Albion is a non-profit agency serving victims of domestic and sexual violence that provides emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis line, short-term individual crisis counseling, support groups, and legal and medical advocacy to victims and their friends and family.
