Leslie Parker, director of Publishing Services, said her staff came up with the idea for the wall during an office retreat. "We wanted to come up with some new ideas to stimulate some thoughts and creativity within the group," she said. Terri Bischoff, assistant director, said, "We were talking about how our environment houses creative services but our building does not look very creative inside. We were looking for ways to liven things up and we thought it would be something different, allow people to put their mark on something, and add some color." She added, "The main purpose is that it can be ever-changing and it's interactive. People can come in and participate, and it gives us something new and interesting to look at every day. I like the idea that it's constantly changing and evolving, basically, like the campus." Permission is not required to write or draw on the wall. "People can leave their artwork or message, but we have the discretion to erase it if we don't feel it's appropriate," Bischoff said. "We just thought it would be fun," Parker said. "After a year or so we'll paint it again and start over." |
