Celebrate springtime at Arts in Harmony, an open-air festival of art and fine crafts, on Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2, in New Harmony, Indiana. Hosted by the artists and the business community, the festival will be held outdoors, rain or shine, at Church and Main streets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 1, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 2. Admission is free and open to the public.

Dozens of regional and national artists will show and sell their work. You'll discover a wealth of art and crafts, from paintings, glass, sculpture, and jewelry to pottery, basketry, woodcarvings, and furniture. Artists are selected based on creativity and craftsmanship. Commercial molds, kits and commercially fabricated forms are not permitted in the show. All of the work is handmade and all of the artists will be present to talk about their artwork or demonstrate their skills.

Music is an important component of the festival. Nationally-known and critically-acclaimed recording artists will share the bill with homegrown talent. At noon on Saturday, Evansville music and performance group Tales and Scales will perform, followed by the Matt Flinner Trio at 1 p.m. and Circle of Friends at 3 p.m. On Sunday, Randy Pease will perform at noon followed by Dana and Susan Robinson at 1:30 p.m.

Food will be available at the festival, so spend the day or come for the weekend and enjoy the slower pace among peaceful, tree-lined streets and beautiful gardens. For hotel or bed-and-breakfast accommodations, go to www.newharmony.biz.

The event is sponsored by the New Harmony Business Association. Provided with support from the Arts Council, the Indiana Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. For more information, call 812/682-3156.
