USI celebrates Earth Day

Bennett, will have a giant Earth ball on the Quad and will distribute Earth Day facts and environmental tips printed on reused paper from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information about campus sustainability initiatives will be on display in Rice Library. Housing and Residence Life's Facilities and Recycling Committee will have games, arts and crafts, food, and information on how to make your life and environment more sustainable on the Quad from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Quad. Several hundred student volunteers have been at work refurbishing Bent Twig Trail on the west side of campus this semester. The Service Learning Program facilitated several work days on the trail in cooperation with Physical Plant staff, faculty, and community volunteers. A reception and Earth Day celebration will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday in a new shelter behind the Children's Learning Center on Clarke Lane. Dr. David L. and Betty F. Rice, USI's founding president and first lady, are expected to attend the reception and thank volunteers. Refreshments will be served and volunteer-led hikes will be available.
