Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Ramos, a senior math teaching major, and Elpers, a senior majoring in mathematics and English, wrote new lyrics for popular songs, making them relevant to the history of math. For example, the song "867-5309/Jenny" is used to discuss e and pi. "The song is about why they don't have exact values and are not just irrational numbers, but transcendental numbers," Ramos said. The program will include about 10 songs plus skits and choreography, and will last about an hour. "We're hoping that anybody who has an interest in math but who may not understand its origins will come out, whether they be USI students or people from the community," Ramos said. The two performed an abridged version of their work in late March at the annual conference of the Mid-East Honors Association in Louisville, Kentucky. |
