Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 "Bob Jeffers' contribution to the advertising industry and our Tri-state community is far reaching," said Jake Phillips, president of the AAF-Greater Evansville. "Through his lengthy and tireless career and community service, he seeks to fulfill the same objectives as the AAF-Greater Evansville. 'To encourage young, talented persons to seek careers in advertising' is perhaps Bob's greatest strength, and fulfilling this very purpose of the AAF-Greater Evansville is cause enough for his receipt of the Silver Medal Award." "Through his teaching career, Bob has ignited a passion for advertising and PR among such a large group of students, advising an average of 100-plus per semester at USI. His role as an instructor of Introduction to Advertising has convinced many students from other majors or that were otherwise undeclared to choose advertising as their true field of study." As a track announcer at Ellis Park for more than 17 years, Bob even helped us open the dinner buffet in true Derby fashion: 'And they're off!" Jeffers has a long history working in the horse racing industry. In addition to announcing for Ellis Park, he was a race commentator and copywriter for the Thoroughbred Racing Network in Lexington, Kentucky, from 1988 to 1991. He served as director of public relations and advertising and track announcer for the Audubon Raceway in Henderson, Kentucky for 20 years, and worked with several other horse racing tracks. He has contributed to the community through service to the Youth Services Bureau, United Way, YMCA, Special Olympics, Reitz Home, Westside Nut Club, and Kiwanis Club. He served on the board of the American Red Cross in 1995-96. Jeffers started teaching at USI in 1987 and joined the University full-time in 1993. He has taught courses in advertising, public relations, radio/TV, speech, and communications. |
