USI President Linda L. M. Bennett and Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel praised the team for its triumph on Saturday for a 6-4 victory over top-ranked UC-San Diego for the NCAA Division II College World Series title. Coach Tracy Achuleta, greeted with applause and cheers, introduced the players and thanked the fans for their support. He said, "It's a special place here. This is why we winfor our fans. Thanks for filling the stands during our home games. The energy from our fans boosts the team into victories." During the tournament and after the game against Kutztown Archuleta told Coach Marx he was so excited. He said, "We were both so excited. Then we see the players and they are calm, composed. I turned to my assistant and said, 'We are going to get this done.'" Wes Fink spoke for the team and called USI fans the best fans and thanked them. As the entire team was introduced, the players mingled with the crowd and exchanged hugs, handshakes, and big smiles.
