Eagles honored by Mayor Weinzapfel, City of Evansville

Mayor Weinzapfel presented the team with a proclamation declaring June 8, 2010, as "USI Screaming Eagles Day." The Evansville City Council also passed a resolution honoring the USI baseball team, which finished the year with a 52-14 record while capturing its first-ever national championship. Under the direction of fourth-year Head Coach Tracy Archuleta, the Eagles also captured the GLVC regular-season title as well as the GLVC Tournament and NCAA II Midwest Region Championships. USI, which finished the season ranked number one in all three of the national polls, went 4-1 at the NCAA II Baseball Championship Series and defeated the University of California-San Diego, 6-4, in the championship game that was aired live on CBS College Sports. The national title is USI's second in a team sport and the first since the USI men's basketball team captured the 1995 national championship. |
