New Harmony Archicamp offered twice in July
|
Indiana Historic Landmarks returns to New Harmony in July with its award-winning children's program, Archicamp. Based on last year's sell-out, the one-day camp will be offered twice in New Harmony this summer, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 8 and 22. Archicamp is a creative, fun way for children ages 8 to 12 to experience New Harmony's unique architecture and build their own inspired designs. At this year's program, campers will tour New Harmony, visiting significant public buildings and exploring the concepts of community and architecture. Students will then work in a historic 1775 double log cabin using recycled materials to create their own original structures. Archicamp is a recent recipient of the American Association for State and Local Leadership in History Award, and is being sponsored by Historic New Harmony and the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana. The program emphasizes 3-D visualization and building, and encourages children to think and create. The registration fee of $25 includes materials, tours, and souvenirs. Children will need to bring a sack lunch snacks and drinks will be provided. The number of participants is limited to 25 for each session, so early registration is encouraged. To reserve a spot at Archicamp, contact Jan Kahle, Historic New Harmony education coordinator, at 812/682.4488 or jkahle@usi.edu. Historic New Harmony is a unified program of the University of Southern Indiana and the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites.
