Michael Aakhus has been named interim dean for the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Southern Indiana, effective July 1, 2010. Aakhus, professor of art, has served as associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts since 2005 and has been on the faculty in the Art Department since 1977. He will replace David Glassman who has been named provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Bradley University.

According to Dr. Ronald Rochon, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, "Professor Aakhus' wealth of experience, knowledge of the University, and concern for students brings a depth of insight that will keep the College of Liberal Arts moving forward in this time of transition. I am excited to welcome him to this new position."

Commenting on the appointment, Aakhus said, "After serving the University of Southern Indiana for 33 years, I am now honored to have the opportunity to serve as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts. I want to thank the students, faculty, staff, and administration for their past support and look forward to working with them on our future endeavors. Above all I value teaching, scholarship, creative work, and service and will work to enhance opportunities in all these areas. I look forward to the year ahead as interim dean doing the work of the College with our outstanding team."

Aakhus holds an MFA in printmaking from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and a B.A. in art and art history from Bemidji State University.
