New Harmony Theatre Staged Readings Series continues June 23
|
Ansky, a well-respected ethnographer, wrote the play as traditional Jewish folklore. Producer Jasmine Ruckriegel said, "The Dybbuk is the haunting, beautiful tale of a young man, who died an unnatural death. He returns to possess his young bride and prevent her from marrying another, which changes her pre-arranged destiny." The Dybbuk will be directed by Markus Potter, a New York-based actor playing the role of Jim in New Harmony Theatre's upcoming mainstage production of The Glass Menagerie. Other plays in the staged readings series include: July 13 at 7:30 p.m. - Barefoot in the Park, a romantic comedy by Neil Simon, directed by Evansville native and New York-based director Laura Savia. August 8 at 7:30 p.m. - Before the Rain, a new gospel- and jazz-infused musical set in an African American community in the 1930s, written by Lenny Leibowitz, Robert Blackwell, and Dianna Russell, and directed by Jasmine Ruckriegel. Readings take place at the Mallette Studio Theatre in the Liberal Arts Center at USI. All tickets are $10.
