New Harmony Theatre, the Tri-state's professional Equity theatre, continues its 2010 season with "The Glass Menagerie," Tennessee Williams' semi-autobiographical chronicle of a domineering mother's desperate attempt to find a husband for her painfully shy daughter. Lenny Leibowitz, artistic director and assistant professor of theatre at the University of Southern Indiana, said this luminous, haunting masterpiece is a seminal work of Twentieth century American theatre.

Produced by the University of Southern Indiana, the play runs July 9 through July 25 at New Harmony's Murphy Auditorium.

Leibowitz directs the production, which features a cast of professional New York actors, including Joy Franz as Amanda and Loren Dunn as Tom. Franz and Dunn also appeared in New Harmony Theatre's summer production of "The School for Scandal." Marnye Young, known to New Harmony Theatre audiences for her winning role as Lenny in the 2008 production of "Crimes of the Heart," plays Laura. Young is a graduate of the University of Evansville's theatre program and received her master's degree from the Yale School of Drama. Markus Potter rounds out the cast as Jim, Laura's gentleman caller.

Leibowitz said, "'The Glass Menagerie' is one of my favorite plays. It remains a flawless act of empathetic imagination, as lovely and fragile as Laura's glass unicorn."

The production features scenery, costumes, and lighting by New Harmony Theatre veterans Tijana Bjelajac, Shan Jensen, and Craig A. Young.

"The Glass Menagerie" plays at Murphy Auditorium at 419 Tavern Street in New Harmony. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors (60 and over), and $10 for anyone 25 or younger. Show time is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday beginning July 9 through July 25.

For information or to purchase tickets, contact the box office at 812/682-3115 or toll free at 1-877-NHT-SHOW (648-7469), or visit the theatre's web site at www.newharmonytheatre.com.
