Plein air painting workshop in New Harmony

As a part of the summer workshop program, the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art will sponsor a workshop on Plein Air Painting in New Harmony. The workshop will start August 2 and last for two weeks until August 13. Sessions will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Studio in New Harmony Indiana. Sarah Bielski, artist and USI instructor of art, will teach the workshop.

Through demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, students will learn technical skills as they relate to the creation of painting outdoors. These will include preparing a surface for painting, color theory, observation of and response to the natural world, subject selection, and compositional strategies. Students will work from observation on sites in the surrounding New Harmony landscape. Each session will begin at the Sarah Campbell Blaffer studio, located on North Street just west of the Roofless Church in New Harmony, Indiana. Course fees are now reduced to $210, which does not include materials.
