Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Over the summer, two parking lots were expanded and a new one was created. Parking Lot J, located south of the Business and Engineering Center, and Parking Lot P, east of the Physical Activities Center, were both doubled in size. The new Parking Lot O is located southeast of the Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Center. Some new parking areas created in 2009 are rarely if ever used. Mark Rozewski, vice president for Business Affairs, said that 226 additional spaces, created when Parking Lot L was built last summer, went unused during the spring 2010 semester. Lot L is located on Bluff Lane beyond Lot K and the tennis courts. Spaces in Lot G will become available when the University's fleet vehicles are relocated to Lot K. The University is in the process of reducing the fleet in favor of rental vehicles. (Read about the new rental vehicle policy.) Parking changes for residential students Steve Woodall, director of Security, said that residential students should be aware of changes in parking regulations for the 2010-11 school year that are intended to provide increased parking, convenience, and security for apartment and resident hall students. O'Daniel North and South parking is being consolidated into the O'Daniel Neighborhood parking area. McDonald East and West is being consolidated into the McDonald Neighborhood parking area. This means North and South O'Daniel will share one parking area, and East and West McDonald will share another parking area. The areas are divided by Jarrett Lane. Residence Hall students will be required to register their vehicles and will be assigned designated parking areas in parking Lot D and Lot E, as well as exclusive use of Lot M and Lot O. Lot O is the new parking lot east of the Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Center. Visitor parking for the apartments will be restricted to the Clark/Schutte Lot, Jarrett Lane between Mahrenholz Road and McDonald Lane, and the Office of Student Conduct and Resolution Services (OSCARS) building lot (the old convenience store lot). Visitors will share parking in these areas with residents. If all of these spaces are occupied, visitors must park in the lots on campus. Parking permits for residential students will be required beginning Monday, August 30, the first day of classes for fall 2010. Parking decal distribution will begin on Monday, August 23, at the Parking Department located in the Security Building. The Parking Department will have a station at the August 26 Welcome Week check-in for new students to register vehicles. The Parking Department office will be closed all day Thursday, August 26. Beginning Friday, August 27, through Sunday, August 29, the Parking Department will set up registration stations in the Residence Life Office, the McDonald West Community Center, and Newman Hall to assist with vehicle registrations. |
