USI and Ivy Tech Community College announce concurrent admission
Ivy Tech Community College Chancellor Dan Schenk and USI President Linda L. M. Bennett
Schenk said, "This program brings significant advantages to Ivy Tech students. A new Ivy Tech student who has at least a 2.5 high school GPA can be accepted into the USIvy program. If that student successfully achieves the program's renewal terms, the student will be guaranteed admission to USI." He added, "The intent of USIvy is to leverage educational resources at both institutions in order to achieve undergraduate educational goals." Bennett said last year 150 students from Ivy Tech Community College transferred to USI and 120 of them were from the Evansville campus of Ivy Tech. She said, "Now a USIvy student who continues eligibility, can transition to USI having already established a relationship with an admission counselor and a faculty advisor. Students will adjust quickly and easily assimilate to the university setting." USIvy students who are in their last semester at Ivy Tech will be eligible to register for classes with current USI students during early registration. They will not need to register for classes as new transfer students in the summer. Before the agreement, if a student began an associate degree at Ivy Tech and then transferred to USI in the same field, Ivy Tech lost the opportunity to award the degree. Under the agreement, when a student transfers before that associate degree is completed, and if he/she continues to be a qualified student in that same field, USI will work with a student to transfer credits back to Ivy Tech to award the associate degree. Elizabeth TenBrook, USI assistant director of admission, is coordinating the program for USI. Her office is located at Ivy Tech Community College Southwest. She is available to talk with interested students about what academic programs are in the Ivy Tech-USI articulated agreement. Students who plan to pursue a degree in a field that requires a separate application (like social work, education, and nursing) are not guaranteed admission through USIvy. Such programs require separate applications because of required references, specific GPAs, and/or criminal history checks. And students who wish to pursue a program of study for which there are no Ivy Tech-USI articulated agreements will be advised on a case-by-case basis. Persons who are interested in information may contact the Admission Office at either institution. To contact the Admission Office at USI call 812-464-1765. |
