Women's basketball announces 2010-11 schedule

The announcement came as the Eagles released their season schedule, one that includes 26 contests. USI's bout with Wayne State, a rematch from the Eagles' 69-68 victory over the Warriors in Detroit, Michigan, last season, is one of 14 home games and eight non-conference contests. Following their duel with Wayne State, the Eagles head to Phoenix, Arizona, to compete in the Grand Canyon University/Growne Plaza Thanksgiving Classic November 19-20. USI takes on Minnesota State University-Moorhead November 19 before playing tournament host Grand Canyon November 20. USI returns to the friendly confines of the PAC over Thanksgiving weekend when it hosts the USI Thanksgiving Classic November 27-28. USI plays the University of Saint Francis (IN) and Saint Mary's University (TX) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, while Bellarmine University plays both of the aforementioned schools in reverse order. The Eagles begin their quest of a GLVC title when they start their 18-game conference schedule December 2 against Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky. They return to the PAC two days later to host Bellarmine. A trip to Florence, Alabama, and the University of North Alabama on December 8 as well as a home date with Salem International University on December 18 wraps up the Eagles' pre-Christmas schedule, while a home contest with defending NCAA II Midwest Region champion Michigan Tech University December 30 concludes the calendar year for the Eagles. USI plays four times in a seven-day span when it resumes GLVC play January 2 at Saint Joseph's College. That stretch includes a trip to the University of Illinois-Springfield January 4 as well as home games against Maryville University (January 6) and Missouri University of Science & Technology (January 8). The Eagles conclude their three-game homestand with Drury University January 13 before visiting Quincy University January 15. USI's longest homestand of the season, a four-game stretch, begins January 17 when the Eagles host Kentucky Wesleyan College. USI completes its first run through the GLVC East Division when it hosts the University of Indianapolis January 22. Home dates with Lewis University (January 27) and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (January 29) conclude the Eagles' games against GLVC North Division opponents as well as their four-game homestand. USI wraps up play against the GLVC West Division a week later when it visits Rockhurst University February 3 and the University of Missouri-St. Louis February 5. Those contests begin a five-game road stretch that includes visits to Indianapolis (February 10), Kentucky Wesleyan (February 14), and Bellarmine (February 17). The Eagles conclude the regular season February 19 when they host Northern Kentucky University. GLVC Tournament play begins February 26 with the first round, while the GLVC Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Championship is March 4-6 in St. Louis, Missouri. Click here to view the entire 2010-11 schedule. 2010-11 USI Women's Basketball Schedule Notes: - The Eagles plays 14 home games, including nine home games against GLVC competition. - USI plays eight games against teams that were in the 2009-10 NCAA II Tournament (St. Mary's, Northern Kentucky (2), Michigan Tech, Drury, Indianapolis (2), UW-Parkside). - The Eagles play 18 GLVC games and eight non-conference games, seven of which are against Division II opponents. - The combined record of USI's 2010-11 opponents last season was 353-292 (214-193 GLVC/139-99 non-conference). - USI was 22-9 overall, 13-5 GLVC, last year, advancing to the NCAA II Tournament for the eighth time in the program's history. - The Eagles played in arguably the toughest division a year ago, posting a 7-1 record against East Division foes. Including USI, the East Division sent three teams to the NCAA II Tournament and was a combined 96-51 in 2009-10. - USI went 16-7 against opponents on this year's slate in 2009-10 and is 253-240 all-time against this season's opponents. - The Eagles return three starters, including All-GLVC guards Ellen Young and Amie Newhart, and have 10 letter winners returning. The Eagles also bring back five of their top six leading scorers from last season's team. - USI is just four wins away from cracking the 500-win plateau. - This is the first time since 2007 that the Eagles have opened the regular season at home. - Season tickets in 2010-11 are $135 for chairback seats and $80 for bench seats.
