Brandi Schwartz Marketing Coordinator Outreach & Engagement 812/464-1854 The course will focus on breath awareness, alignment principles, and desk postures that enhance health and well-being. Participants will learn simple postures and techniques that can be incorporated into daily activities at home or work. A discussion on common postural issues that can lead to back pain, tension in the neck and shoulders, and carpal tunnel injuries will also take place. Sipes teaches yoga classes at the Evansville Yoga Center, where she completed a 200-hour teacher-training program, and at the USI Fitness Center. "I'm very excited to offer a practice of yoga that might be more accessible to people since they can do it right at their desks," said Sipes. "The class will concentrate on seated postures, things that wouldn't look too strange to coworkers or others passing by, and some breathing exercises that students can do to help relieve stress, improve concentration, and become generally more comfortable, physically and mentally." No experience in yoga is necessary and all fitness levels are welcome. Course registration is $42. USI employees are eligible to take the course at no charge with a fee waiver. Fee waiver forms are available through the Human Resources Department. For more information, or to register for Office Yoga, contact the USI Division of Outreach and Engagement/Extended Services at 812/464-1989 or 800/467-8600.
