In 1981, Skoglund completed a four year clerkship at the Office of the Attorney General for Vermont and was admitted to the Vermont Bar. She worked in the Office of the Attorney General from 1978 to 1994, when she was appointed to the trial bench by Governor Howard Dean and presided in Family, Civil and Criminal courts around the state. She was appointed an associate justice of the Vermont Supreme Court in 1997. Skoglund is the sister of Dr. Margaret Skoglund, associate professor of art history. The Berger Lecture Series remembers and honors Sydney Berger, who was one of Evansville′s most respected attorneys. The College of Liberal Arts celebrates the values he cherished by having a speaker each year speak on the theme of civil rights or civil liberties. The lecture is generously underwritten by Charles L. and Leslie A. Berger. The 2010 Berger Lecture is sponsored by the Art Department.
