Community of Scholars Lecture addresses Lincoln and political humor

In his lecture, he will discuss the humor surrounding Abraham Lincoln′s presidency - both aimed at him through cartoons, and used by him to disarm his opponents. The presentation is part of the commemoration of Lincoln′s 200th birthday. Younger is professor emeritus of communication and theatre arts at Heidelberg University, where he was the associate dean of the Honors Program. He has published numerous articles on presidential humor and has written two plays, most recently As Different as a Frog and a Grizzly: an Evening with Mark Twain and Teddy Roosevelt. He has lectured throughout the United States and the United Kingdom on the topic of presidential humor and was a presenter on Bill Clinton′s presidency at the prestigious Hofstra Presidential Conference. Younger holds a bachelor′s degree from Wittenberg University, a master′s degree from Kent State University, and a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University. The College of Liberal Arts engages a speaker for the Community of Scholars presentation each fall. The Department of Political Science and Public Administration hosts the 2010 program.
