During his presentation, Johansson will discuss the sources of innovation and how to create new innovative products and services. Attendees will discover how breakthrough ideas occur, how to significantly increase innovative ideas, and how to identify new ways to leverage area resources to strengthen and create new innovative products and services. A discussion will follow the presentation with comments from a response panel: Carl Chapman, president and CEO of Vectren Corporation, Lisa Gehlhausen, executive director of Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission, Greg Wathen, president and CEO of Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana, and Kent Yeager, director of Public Policy of Indiana Farm Bureau Incorporated. In his book, The Medici Effect, Johansson discusses how breakthrough ideas occur when individuals bring concepts from one field into unfamiliar territory and offers examples on how to turn newly discovered ideas into path-breaking innovations. He maintains these "intersections" are the keys to innovation. The book also reveals a process individuals can use to assure that innovation occurs. Johansson is a consultant who writes and speaks about different types of intersections. He was formerly a founder and CEO of Inka.net, an enterprise software company out of Boston, and a vice president of business development at Dola Health Systems, a health care company in Baltimore and Sweden. An MBA graduate from Harvard Business School, Johansson was born and raised in Sweden and currently lives in New York City. The conference is sponsored by the University of Southern Indiana College of Business, Pott College of Science and Engineering, and the Division of Outreach and Engagement/Extended Services, the Purdue Center for Regional Development, the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, and the Evansville-Area Human Resource Association, Incorporated.
