First annual Ohio Valley STEM Educators Conference being held at USI

Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Pre-kindergarten through college-level STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) educators from throughout the Tri-state will share new and innovative pedagogical strategies, discover hands-on and inquiry-based activities, and explore ways to enhance STEM education in their classrooms. "The need for STEM education is at an all-time high" said Kara Becker, SwISTEM director. "This conference will meet the professional development needs of many educators while saving schools the expense of travel. There will be more than 40 professional development sessions with topics in all of the STEM areas." The agenda is posted online at http://www.usi.edu/STEM/2010/OVSTEMAgenda.ASP. Tours of the Science and Education Center, the Engineering Department, and the University of Southern Indiana campus also will be offered. The SwISTEM Resource Center, located within the University of Southern Indiana's Pott College of Science and Engineering, is part of the state-wide initiative to create a science- and mathematics-literate workforce in Indiana. USI is the region's lead institution in the I-Stem Resource Network, a partnership of public and private institutions, K-12 schools, business, and government.
