Students need your vote for national competition
|
To proceed through the second round of competition successfully, the team needs your help. Each semifinalist team prepared a video presentation for consideration by the judges and for public viewing. The public can vote for their favorite video November 12-19 at the competition web site. Three teams will be chosen as finalists. Public voting counts for 15 percent of the judges' scoring on the video presentation. Go to www.thiswaytocpa.com/vote and scroll down to find the USI team video. After clicking the "vote" tab, you will need to enter your name and email address before submitting your vote. Then, you will need to check your email and click on the designated link in the email message to make your vote count. Team members are Katie Braun of Newburgh, Indiana, and Chris Corbin, Melissa Taylor, and Emily Schminke, all of Evansville. Dr. Debra Hunter, assistant professor of accounting, is faculty advisor. The USI College of Business team is among 10 semifinalists chosen from a field of 64 teams from universities throughout the nation that entered the competition. This is the first year for the USI College of Business to enter a team in the contest. The three teams selected as finalists will make formal presentations January 21 to the AICPA board of directors in New York City. The top team will claim a $10,000 prize. Second- and third-place teams will receive $5,000 and $2,500, respectively. Other semifinalist teams represent The Citadel, Elms College, Ohio Dominican University (two teams), Pittsburg State University, San Jose State University, University of St. Francis, University of Tennessee, and University of Texas at Dallas. The students on the USI team are members of the USI Accounting Club, an organization committed to developing student skills and awareness of career opportunities in the various areas of professional accounting. Braun and Corbin are pursuing a post-baccalaureate certificate in accountancy. Taylor is a junior Schminke is a senior. The 2010 AICPA Accounting Competition gives college students the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in developing a business proposal. Established in 1887, the AICPA is a national professional association for certified public accountants. |
