Engelbrecht named GLVC Coach of the Year
Krissy Engelbrecht
Engelbrecht has directed the Screaming Eagles to a 12-5-1 overall record, and a 10-3-1 mark in the GLVC, three victories better than a year ago. The 2010 Eagles have advanced to the GLVC Tournament for the second straight year and are hosting a first round match for the first time since 2000 when they play Bellarmine University Sunday at 1 p.m. USI also had four players honored with All-GLVC awards, a pair on both the first and second teams. Leading the Eagles on the first team is junior forward Nancy Newcomer (Parma Heights, Ohio) and sophomore midfielder Susan Ellsperman (Newburgh, Indiana). The All-GLVC honor is the first for both players and marks the first time since 1999 that USI has had players selected to the first team. Newcomer has a team-high seven goals, including a team-best four game-winners, and ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 14 points. Ellsperman is third on the team in scoring with 15 points on three goals and a GLVC-leading nine assists. She also has a game-winning goal and has assisted on three additional game-winners. On the second team, the GLVC honored junior forward Meagan Kempf (Evansville, Indiana) and sophomore defender Jessica Gates (Crown Point, Indiana). Kempf, who is the third player in the history of the USI program to earn All-GLVC honors for a third straight year, leads the Eagles in scoring with 20 points on six goals and eight assists. Gates has helped anchor a USI defense that has reduced its team goals against average by nearly 0.50 goals this season (0.87 GAA). She also has four points on one goal and two assists. |
