Indiana's Historic Pathways, a state scenic byway that receives administrative support from University of Southern Indiana's Historic Southern Indiana, has announced the winners of the 2010 "Take a Shot" photo contest.

Rachel Wolfe of Oregon, Illinois, won the $500 award in the adult category for her "Summer Rain" submission taken in Vincennes, Indiana. Wolfe's photo can be viewed online by clicking here.

In the youth category, Megan Kennedy of North Vernon, Indiana, won the $250 prize for her photo "It's All in Your Perspective," taken in Vernon, Indiana. Click here to view Kennedy's photo.

Open to amateur and professional photographers who reside in the United States, photos submitted to the contest must have been taken in southern Indiana along or near the byway. Photos entered into the contest will be used to promote the community as a preferred travel destination by showing great visitor experiences and opportunities.

Indiana's Historic Pathway is a Y-shaped route that stretches 250 miles across the southern half of Indiana, along U.S. 50/U.S. 150 from Vincennes to the town of Shoals. At that point, it forks and continues along U.S. 50 to Lawrenceburg and along U.S. 150 to the Falls of the Ohio. The byway tells the story of early settlement, westward migration, and transportation in Indiana. It was designated a state scenic byway in 2004 and to America's Byways collection in 2009.

Historic Southern Indiana, an outreach and engagement project of USI, was created in 1986 to serve the southernmost 26 counties of Indiana. Its goals are to identify, preserve, protect, enhance, and promote the historical, natural, and recreational resources of the region. It seeks to implement those goals through programs in historic preservation, history education, heritage tourism, community development, and scenic byways. Its office is a part of the Division of Outreach and Engagement/Extended Services.
