Trustees approve candidates for degrees

Candidates from the colleges of Business, Nursing and Health Professions, and Science and Engineering will be awarded degrees in a 10 a.m. ceremony. At a 1 p.m. ceremony, candidates from colleges of Education and Human Services and Liberal Arts, plus Division of Extended Services students, will receive degrees. Brian McGuire, associate dean from the College of Business, will deliver the Commencement address. He was named the Integra Bank Distinguished Professor last semester for his contributions to the University, its students, and the larger community. In other business, the trustees received a report on student financial aid for 2009-2010. The Office of Student Financial Assistance served 12,666 clients last year and provided some type of aid to 8,545 enrolled students. USI provided $76,085,436 in more than 21,000 awards for tuition and other expenses. The total dollars were up by 15.9 percent ($10,430,168) from the previous year. Grants and scholarships increased by 28.7 percent and loans increased by 8.7 percent. Student employment on campus increased by 15.4 percent. Trustees also heard reports on insurance changes and renewals along with a progress report on current construction. The next University of Southern Indiana Board of Trustees meeting will be January 13, 2011 in Indianapolis. |
