Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 "During the past two decades, we have been pleased to host High School Media Day at USI and to serve as a resource for area high school students and educators," said Dr. J. Wayne Rinks, chairman of the USI Department of Communications. "Journalism education in this era of high-technology 'citizen journalists' is even more important than before because of the easy access people have to media." Beginning at 9 a.m., high school journalists will take sessions offered by USI faculty and area media professionals. Workshops include such topics as Social Media, Digital Audio Editing, Digital Storytelling, Digital Video Editing, Feature Writing, Journalism Ethics, Advertising in Newspapers & Yearbooks, Communication Careers, Interviewing Basics, and Writing Newspaper Leads. There also will be tours of the USI campus and an opportunity to meet with USI communications students. High School Media Day also includes newspaper and yearbook contests, publication critiques, and an awards luncheon. "Without the continuing support of the Evansville Courier & Press and the strong influence of Mizell Stewart III, the newspaper′s editor, High School Media Day would not be possible," said Dr. Gael L. Cooper, director of the Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies. "We want to continue as a quality resource for area high school journalism and publications programs." For more information, contact Cooper at USI′s Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies, at 812/465-7136 or gcooper@usi.edu. |
