The Distinguished Accountant Award recognizes professional achievement, service to the region and/or the University, and service to the accounting profession. The USI College of Business accounting program and the Accounting Circle, an advisory group, present the award. In announcing the honor, Jeffrey L. Wilmes, 2009 recipient of the award, said Conner has a highly regarded record of service to the community and to the University. "In her capacity with Evansville ARC," he said, "she provides invaluable time and energy to meet the needs of the organization's clients." Conner joined Evansville ARC in 2001 as director of finance and was promoted to her present position in 2002. The nonprofit organization provides programs and services to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities in Evansville and surrounding communities. In 2009, Conner led ARC Industries, a division of Evansville ARC, to sponsor the ARC Ideation Contest, giving USI students an opportunity to exercise their entrepreneurial and problem-solving ideas. Conner is a past president of the Accounting Circle and the USI Alumni Council. She is a member of the College of Business Board of Advisors and the advisory board for the USI Center for Applied Research. Conner graduated from USI in 1987 with a major in accounting. "I truly believe that every experience, every success, and every accomplishment during the past 25 years are a direct result of my USI education and network of friends and supporters within the University. Volunteering at USI is a natural thing for me. USI is an important part of who I am. "I was a sophomore when USI became an independent university. It was an exciting time to be part of the USI community. My excitement and my pride in being associated with the University have grown stronger year after year." Conner's community leadership includes serving as a board member for the Boy Scouts of America-Buffalo Trace Council, United Way of Southwestern Indiana, and Albion Fellows Bacon Center.
