Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Thirteen middle school teams and nine high school teams representing 12 schools - a total of 88 students - are registered to compete in the contest. SeaPerch is a competition using underwater remote operated vehicles (ROVs) built and tested by students. Regional middle, and high school students build the ROV from a kit comprised of low-cost, easily accessible parts, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme. SeaPerch is funded by the Office of Naval Research. USI's is the first SeaPerch competition to be held in Southern Indiana. The kits were made possible through the generosity of Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division and an Indiana SeaPerch grant. A national SeaPerch competition will be held in May. The SeaPerch Competition is sponsored by USI's SwiSTEM Resource Center. Registration is $25 per school.
