USI's Department of Communications and Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies will present the second annual symposium on "The Impact of Social Media on Communications" at 7 p.m. Monday, February 28 in Carter Hall. This year's speaker, Jamaison Schuler, is a 1998 USI graduate with a degree in communications. Schuler will present "Companies on Twitter: Keeping the Social in 'Social Media'."

Schuler is a manager in corporate communications at the nation's largest dairy company, Dean Foods. Dean Foods has over 30 regional dairy brands and nearly 80 percent of U.S. households have some Dean Foods product in their refrigerator. Schuler's areas of responsibility include leading the company's branded milk, ice cream, and iced tea public relations campaigns, developing a corporate social media strategy, issues and crisis management and response, and other external communications vehicles such as the company's web site and annual report.

Named one of PRWeek magazine's 2010 40 Under 40, Schuler has over 13 years of strategic communications experience in the corporate and consultant settings. He most recently worked in Indianapolis in Eli Lilly and Company's global product communications department as manager for the company's neuroscience therapeutic area. He led strategic communications in the United States for the company's $5 billion drug Zyprexa and for two emerging Alzheimer's disease drug candidates. He earned his Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America in 2004 and has served a variety of volunteer roles with the Hoosier PRSA chapter, including serving as the 2010 president. While attending the University, Schuler was a charter member of USI's PRSSA chapter.

The USI Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will host a brown bag luncheon with Shuler from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, February 28 in Carter Hall, room B. While on campus, Schuler will meet with several communications courses throughout the day.

All events are open to the public and are free of charge. For more information, contact Dr. Gael L. Cooper, 812/204-1246 or gcooper@usi.edu.
