Wendy Knipe Bredhold Media Relations Specialist, News & Information Services 812/461-5259 Business, industry, government, and non-profit employers will participate in CareerLINK, as will some graduate schools. Those looking for full-time professional positions, part-time work, internships, or co-ops will be interested in CareerLINK. The event is open to all current students and alumni. "So many employers now require students and other applicants to apply for positions online," said Philip L. Parker, director of Career Services and Placement. "Networking events such as CareerLINK allow students to meet recruiters and company representatives face-to-face, which is an opportunity that can so often be lost in this age of electronic job searches." Some of the employers will be represented by USI graduates. "We are always pleased to see USI alums among those representing the employers and assisting with recruitment," Parker said. "Students respond well when they meet someone in their occupational field who was a student right here on our campus just a few years ago." Parker also offered advice to students seeking work. "Students should view CareerLINK much as they would a job interview," Parker said. "Recruiters at these events are always evaluating the interaction they have with students, however brief the interaction may be. Making sure your overall appearance, attire, and communication skills send the right impression are vital to networking success. A firm handshake, eye contact, a smile, and a general demeanor of confidence and initiative go a long way in making that good impression." CareerLINK is focused on business, science, engineering, and liberal arts professions. A teacher fair will be held in April and a health professions fair October.
