Sarah Harlan Administrative Associate News & Information Services 812/465-7005 Dr. Gregory was recognized for his leadership when the Office of Judicial Affairs was shifted to the Office of Student Conduct and Resolution Services. He provided guidance and education within the campus community to better understand the transition and its dynamics. "The OSCARS office was created to offer a more comprehensive response to address behavior-related concerns within housing, as well as on and off campus," Dr. Gregory said. During the transition, he created pathways and opportunities for staff to maintain their obligation to hold students accountable for their actions while at the same time recognizing how their environment and life-styles may affect students' actions. "Regardless of the situation or the range of emotions displayed, Dr. Gregory maintains a firm but gentle approach," said Kourtney Eastham, area coordinator in Housing and Residence Life. "He is able to rationalize the situation without diminishing the concerns of the individual." Eastham said students are able to learn something from their interactions with Dr. Gregory and walk away from these interactions with new knowledge that can apply to their time at USI and thereafter. He engages students in an exploration of their values, and then finds ways to support students in their journey to better themselves. "While it is nice to receive national recognition, the daily interaction with USI students, staff, faculty, and the surrounding community is what rewards me both personally and professionally," Dr. Gregory said. In addition to his work in Housing and Residence Life, Dr. Gregory is a trainer for the Rape Aggression Defense Program and a member of the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee. He is a graduate of the ASCA Donald D. Gehring Academy Basic Track, Mediation Track, Restorative Justice Track, the Conflict Resolution Specialist Track, and the mid-level/senior track. He is currently the ASCA membership committee chair. |
