LA Faculty Colloquium topic is "When Queer Bites Back"

Evon Hawkins, assistant professor of English, will present "When Queer Bites Back" as part of the College of Liberal Arts Faculty Colloquia Series at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, in Kleymeyer Hall in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center. Hawkins' paper looks at the explorations of "queerness" as "monstrousness" in contemporary horror films, including Bram Stoker's "Dracula," the Twilight saga, and "30 Days of Night." She asks, "How 'straight' we can read these films - and what they might tell us about the position of queerness in a society based on normative heterosexuality?" The colloquium is a free lecture series featuring faculty research in the College of Liberal Arts.
