Brandi Schwartz Marketing Coordinator Outreach & Engagement 812/464-1854 The Bicycle Rodeo will include bicycle safety training, games, and instruction from members of the Evansville Bicycle Club on plotting safe cycling routes for Evansville youth. A bike ride to the Shirley James Gateway Plaza, located along the Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage, will begin at 3:30 p.m. The Bicycle Rodeo is free and open to the public. Originally scheduled for April 16, it was postponed due to rain. During the past year, several hundred USI and local K-12 students have worked in conjunction with the Evansville-Area Trails Coalition to restore trails on USI's campus and the community. Through mentoring, service opportunities, the Bicycle Rodeo, and other outdoor activities, the goal is to encourage Evansville youth to utilize the newly restored trails. "We are very excited to be coordinating this event and hope people of all ages will come out to ride with the youth," said Dr. Anne Statham, director of USI's Service Learning Program. "This will be a valuable experience for all age groups." Participants must have basic bike riding skills and should wear closed toe shoes and a helmet. Helmets purchased with the UnitedHealth Group grant will be available for those who do not have one. Those who complete bicycle safety training at the event will be eligible to enter a drawing for a new bicycle.
